Winnipeg - David Chartrand has been elected President of the Manitoba Metis Federation for an unprecedented fourth consecutive term of office with 70% of the province wide vote.

In his victory speech to his supporters gathered in Winnipeg, Chartrand credited his success to holding true to the ideals of the Metis Nation. Chartrand stated, "I am truly honoured to again be elected to serve our people for another four years. My ethical campaign and platform has always been based on principles of respect, integrity and accountability and the Metis people in Manitoba have spoken. We have worked hard to unite the Metis people across this province and we need to keep the people united. It is only by listening to the direction of the Metis people and believing in our Nationhood that we will continue to keep our momentum going."

Winning a majority in all seven regions, Chartrand received a unified and unanimous mandate across the province.

Chartrand, who has been MMF President since 1997 and on the MMF Board since 1988, is anxious to carry out his policies of long-term financial stability and growth of the Federation.

While official results will likely not be released until next week, the official results for the Presidential race were released by the Chief Electoral Office and show 4,244 votes for David Chartrand and 2,550 for Yvon Dumont. The Chief Electoral Office has advised that all preliminary results will be released later today and those preliminary results will be posted on the website immediately upon receipt.
